Garden Horizons Variants

Ripening stages and color variants — how they stack, what they're worth, and how to maximize them

Value Formula

Base Price × Mutation Sum × Variant Sum

Variant Sum = Ripening Multiplier + Color Variant Bonus (additive within category). Example: Gold (5) + Lush (3) = Variant Sum.

Ripening Stages

Time-based multipliers gained by staying online after a plant matures. Stack with color variants.

Color Variants

Rare random bonuses that add on top of your ripening multiplier. Cannot be forced — pure luck.

Variant Stacking Examples

Here's how ripening stages and color variants combine to multiply your crop's final sell value. All examples use Beetroot (base sell: 2,000 Shillings) with no mutations applied.

Combination Variant Sum Beetroot Value
Unripe (no color)2,000 $
Ripened (no color)4,000 $
Lush (no color)6,000 $
Silver + Unripe1 + 2 = 3×6,000 $
Silver + Lush3 + 2 = 5×10,000 $
Gold + Unripe1 + 5 = 6×12,000 $
Gold + Lush3 + 5 = 8×16,000 $

Add mutations on top for even bigger numbers. A Gold Lush Beetroot with Starstruck (6.5×): 2,000 × 7.5 × 8 = 120,000 Shillings. Use the Calculator for exact values.

Mastering Variants in Garden Horizons

Variants are the second pillar of Garden Horizons' economy, alongside mutations. While mutations are triggered by weather events at planting time, variants are determined by two factors: how long you stay online after a plant matures (ripening), and random luck (color variants). Understanding both systems is essential for maximizing your Shilling income.

Ripening: The Patience Game

After a plant finishes its base growth cycle, it enters the ripening phase. The plant starts at Unripe (1x) and gradually progresses to Ripened (2x) and finally Lush (3x). The critical detail is that ripening only advances while you are online in the game — logging off pauses the timer completely. Ripened requires 2.4x the base grow time, and Lush requires 7.2x. For a Carrot with a fast base grow time, reaching Lush is quick. For slow-growing Legendary crops like Cherry, it takes significant online time.

The decision of when to harvest depends on your crop's value and your available playtime. For cheap Common crops, harvesting at Ripened (2x) and replanting may yield more Shillings per hour than waiting for Lush. For expensive Epic and Legendary crops, always wait for Lush — the 3x multiplier on a 500,000 base Cherry is 1,500,000 Shillings, far too valuable to leave on the table.

Color Variants: Luck-Based Jackpots

Color variants are random bonuses that can appear on any plant. Silver adds +2x and Gold adds +5x to your variant sum. These bonuses are additive with ripening, meaning a Gold Lush plant has a variant sum of 3 + 5 = 8x — eight times the base price before mutations are even considered.

There is no way to force a color variant. They are purely luck-based, which makes them exciting jackpots when they appear. The best strategy is to always have high-value crops growing so that when a Gold variant does appear, it's on a Cherry or Cabbage rather than a Carrot. A Gold Lush Cherry is worth 500,000 x 8 = 4,000,000 Shillings — and that's without any mutations.

Rainbow is a confirmed upcoming variant that has not yet been released. Based on community speculation, it may offer an even higher bonus than Gold. Stay tuned for updates.

Variants + Mutations: The Full Picture

The complete value formula is: Base Price × Mutation Sum × Variant Sum. Mutations and variants multiply each other, creating exponential value growth. A Gold Lush Cherry with Starstruck (6.5x) and Shocked (4.5x) would be worth: 500,000 × (1 + 6.5 + 4.5) × (3 + 5) = 500,000 × 12 × 8 = 48,000,000 Shillings. This is the theoretical maximum for a single crop in the current version of Garden Horizons.

Frequently Asked Questions About Garden Horizons Variants

What are the ripening stages in Garden Horizons?

There are 3 ripening stages: Unripe (1x, immediate), Ripened (2x, requires 2.4x base grow time online), and Lush (3x, requires 7.2x base grow time online). You must stay in-game for the ripening timer to advance — offline time does not count.

How do color variants work?

Color variants are random bonuses: Silver (+2x) and Gold (+5x). They add to the ripening multiplier. A Gold Lush plant has a variant sum of 3 + 5 = 8x. Color variants are purely luck-based and cannot be influenced by weather, gear, or any other mechanic.

Should I always wait for Lush before harvesting?

For expensive crops (Epic and Legendary), always wait for Lush. The 3x multiplier is too valuable to skip. For cheap fast-growing crops like Carrot, harvesting at Ripened and replanting can sometimes yield more Shillings per hour. Use the Calculator to compare.

What is the Rainbow variant in Garden Horizons?

Rainbow is a confirmed upcoming color variant that has not been released yet. The exact multiplier is unknown (marked as TBA). It is expected to offer a higher bonus than Gold (5x). Follow the official Discord for release announcements.

Do variants stack with mutations?

Yes. The formula is Base Price × Mutation Sum × Variant Sum. Mutations and variants multiply each other. A Lush (3x) crop with Starstruck (6.5x) has a final multiplier of (1 + 6.5) × 3 = 22.5x. Add Gold and it becomes 7.5 × 8 = 60x base price.
